Booking your session

The ideal time to photograph your baby is within three weeks of birth, with 7-10 days old being ideal. At this age, your baby is still very sleepy and flexible, and this allows us to safely and comfortably pose your baby in the beautiful dreamy poses that are so popular.

Newborn babies sleep deeper during the morning, so our sessions start at 10 am.

The best time to book a session is as soon as you know your due date. We will book a provisional date in our diary and amend that when you arrive at home with your new baby. Babies can arrive up to two weeks early or late, so we need a bit of ‘wiggle room’ in our diary. We, therefore, can only book three newborn sessions in a week (one session a day), so be sure to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Our diary usually fills up at least four weeks in advance, but we do have late availability from time to time.

Products & Pricing

There is a session fee that is payable at the time of making your provisional booking. Newborn sessions are held at our studio and are booked in on weekdays only. The session fee of £300 covers the following:

• 4 hours of studio time in Finchley, North London

• Professional hair and makeup (for Mum) on the day of your shoot.

• Full digital retouching and enhancing of your images.

• Your image reveal and ordering session. This is scheduled one week after the shoot.

You are also investing in over 20 years of experience in photographing newborn babies, our artistic talent and an experience that you will cherish for many years to come.

Please note that the session fee does not include printed or digital images.

We firmly believe that the beautiful pictures that we will create fully deserve to be displayed using the best quality printed products. It is the only safe way to preserve and archive this incredible moment in your lives. All of our collections include a set of professionally printed and mounted photos and the same images stored digitally on a USB drive.

You will get to choose your favourites and take them home with you on the day of your ‘reveal’ session. Each collection includes a luxury handcrafted folio box to store your precious photo’s. There are also display products, including wall art, video keepsakes, and gift prints, that you can add to your collection.

There is absolutely no obligation to purchase a collection, and there is never any hard sell. Individual prints can be purchased.

Viewing and Choosing your Pictures

One week after your session, we invite you back to our studio for “the reveal’, where you’ll see your photos for the first time. Your prints & digital images can be purchased and taken home the same day. Your customised folio box and other display art will be delivered to you roughly two weeks after your reveal session.

Safety

Newborn photography is an entirely unregulated industry. At Russ Jackson Photography, your baby will be in very safe and experienced hands. A typical session will last between three and four hours, and apart from feeding your baby, we will be settling and posing your baby throughout that time. We make the safety and comfort of your baby our absolute priority. We practice safe posing techniques, and there is always one of Valeria’s supporting hands-on or very close to your baby during the session. Russ has attended numerous newborn training workshops and also teaches newborn photography to aspiring newborn photographers around the world. He is also trained in paediatric first aid and is CRB checked.

We also have two beautiful boys ourselves, so we know how it feels in the first few weeks when you get home with a new baby!
